About the Rooms
In early 1990, a public contest to name meeting rooms and public spaces within the SUB was conducted at the suggestion of the Student Union Board of Governors. Thirty-five entries were submitted which the Student Union Board of Governors short-listed. Four finalists were reviewed by the twenty member board at the April 1990 meeting. The entry selected was "Idaho's Cultural and Intellectual Pioneers," submitted by Dr. Peter Wollheim.
To identify individual's names, a group representing faculty and students worked with SUB staff to establish selection criteria listed below. Individual names were suggested, then biographical and historical research was conducted. From this data, individuals to be honored were identified, discussed, and approved by the Student Union Board of Governors and finally the President of Boise State University.
In order to be selected as a candidate, the following criteria were required:
- Either native-born Idahoans or having spent significant residence in Idaho
- A national reputation as a contributor to their respective fields or endeavors
- Consistent bodies of professional work in their fields or have received an outstanding honor
